While the Fourth of July has already come and gone, you’re probably still hearing the crackle and pop of fireworks nearby.

These exciting and colorful explosions signify the independence of our nation and should always be used with caution. Improper use of fireworks can cause you to lose a limb or more. This summer season be safe and stick to these top fireworks tips, courtesy of Premier Prosthetics.

  • Have an area where fireworks can be safely launched without hitting buildings, people or other objects.
  • If the firework does not ignite, do not pick it up or try to light it again. Instead, spray it down with water before discarding.
  • Never hold a firework while lighting it. Set it on the pavement and back up, or have a holder handy that can launch them away from you.
  • Don’t allow small children to handle fireworks, and older children should only do so under adult supervision.
  • Have water and a fire extinguisher ready in case something unintended ignites.

At Premier Prosthetics, we work with individuals who have survived all varieties of accidents and obstacles. We take pride in helping hundreds of individuals transition from limb loss with compassion, understanding and an abundance of knowledge.
